Social media is wide open. Β People use it for personal and business.
Like all things, there are common “rules” to abide by. Β I like to call them Social Media Tips.
I’ve been posting these frequently on my Twitter page, so I would like to share my Top 10 Social Media Tips with you. Β These are not in any particular order.
1.Β Find the top influencers in your niche and follow them. You will be surprised at what you learn.
2.Β To gain exposure on LinkedIn, try posting & answering in the Answers section.
3.Β Questions & Pictures get the most response.
4.Β Use clean language. Using foul language or profanity is the quickest way to get unfollowed or blocked.
5.Β Welcome your new Twitter followers. Β Send them a tweet or DM.
6.Β If pinning to Pinterest, pin from the original source or your website.
7.Β Acknowledge! People want to be noticed. Respond to mentions, posts, retweets and direct messages!
8.Β Share you links. You have a difference audience in each platform. Cross-promote your latest post or your website.
9.Β To educate yourself, subscribe to a few blogs from your niche.
10.Β You do not have to do it all! Pick the platforms that work best for your business and work them!
Any successful social media campaign incorporates these into their strategy. Β Do you have a tip you want to share? Β Post it below or leave it on my Facebook page!

Great tips, Mandy! Love #10 especially π
Thanks Kim! That seems to be a popular one!
Awesome tips, Mandy!..
Thanks Lorii!
I love the last point the best about not having to do it all. THANK GOD! The silly thing is that I keep avoiding the one platform that has probably been the best to me in the past – Youtube. Heaven help me! My camera broke so I got an iphone and just need to use it!
I hardly do YouTube too! I think you should find what works and focus on that!
wonderful tips! I love that you give permission not to do it all. I do facebook and linkedin. Twitter I’ve been cooling off on lately because there’s just only so much time. But I started with youtube and pinterest. And then I heard about a couple of other networks and I simply said NO— CAN’T do it! I need time to work my business, OTHER than social media/ marketing time! There are credit cards to process, phone interviews to do, and product to deliver— and I have a life outside of this! π So I love our YCD group– it gives me a daily focus—- if I have time to market on Thursdays I know I’ll be visiting linkedin and klout. If I have time to market on Mondays I know I’ll be creating a video and visiting youtube. Great points Mandy!
Thanks Heather! I say find what works best and focus on that!
I haven’t found my influencers yet. Why didn’t I think of that? Thanks. I’m on it!
π
“you don’t have to do it all” great advice!
Thanks Joyce!
Great tips for using Social Media no matter which platform it is. Thanks!!
Thanks Beth!
Great post Mandy! Keep it up, learning a lot from you! π
Thanks Norma!
Great tips Mandy! Love how you keep them to the point and give us just what we need. Thanks!
Thanks Gretchen!!
Nice source for the start up social media rookie! π
Thanks Dorien!
Great tips – especially the one about not trying to do everything. You just can’t, and you dilute your message and influence when you try to be all things to all people.
Thanks Susan!
Great article, good tips, thank you.
Thanks Maggie!
I went in and checked to be sure I was following the top influencers in my field: women and money. And found a few I had missed. Thanks!
Great!!
Great tips for the newbie! I would also add that using DMs are not that effective any more. Most people don’t even read them because they have gotten so full of spam. A thanks in the Twitter stream works best!
I see that with the DMs. All I get are spam, a rare interaction too. For me, I can’t keep up with it in my Twitter stream.
Great tips! I think #1 and #7 are most important though π
Those are my 2 favorite ones too!
This very helpful! I have found #3 and #7 especially helpful in my work. Thank you for sharing these!
Thanks Lisa!
Great post, Mandy. Definitely good rules to follow.
Thanks Marie!
Great Tips – THANKS! Not doing it all is important for me. I haven’t really committed to Google+, have no time to set up Pinterest, etc. But I love my Facebook and Twitter!
Thanks Kay!
oh my, Mandy, I need lots of tips for social media.. I like the first one the most of all! I might have to Facebook you with a question now and then!
Thanks Barbara! If you have any questions, ask away! π
I love lists like this. Easy to skim and still get a good grasp of the article. I do most of the things on that list but must admit that #2 is something I just can’t seem to connect to; Linked In. Just not feeling it yet. But I guess if that’s the only one on this list, I’m doing okay π
Thanks Liz! LinkedIn is great when you get into it!
Great tips, Mandy! The best thing I ever did was hire someone to help me with social media. It is far too much to all by yourself. Thanks!
Thanks Lisa! Having help is a definite plus!
Social media can be so much fun. It can also be a great way to promote your business. Finding that balance, and managing the time for the best result is key to your success.
That is so true Sally!
Loved all of your valuable and relevant posts. Fantastic job. I am curious about one thing though….what plugin are you using for your social media buttons in your sidebar!
Thanks Theresa! I use the “Floating Social” plug-in. I love it!
great points – you sure have a lot of responses here! wow – you are an influencer yourself for sure!
Thanks Patricia! This was a popular one π
These are all great tips Mandy, thanks. I especially like “you don’t have to do it all” ~ that’s the one I’m trying to wrap my head around right now. Although I must say, that as you get more experience, doing more becomes easier. You learn better how to schedule, plan and cross-post without being completely repetitive. But, starting with no more than you can manage is definitely crucial!
Great tips here, although number 5 is not one of my favorites.
Wonderful tips, Mandy! I love #7. It is so important! Thanks for sharing your great knowledge of social media π
Hi Mandy! Thanks for sharing these tips! To-the-point and very helpful!
